How We Work
How We Work
All too often particle design and engineering is an afterthought – only addressed when a formulation fails, scale-up stalls, or a regulatory issue arises. By that point, the options are narrower and the cost is higher.
Our approach is proactive and built on the conviction that particle science done well, and done early, changes what a programme can achieve. Not left as a separate workstream that runs alongside development, but as an integrated thread that runs through it.
We believe in stage-appropriate support: providing the right level of insight for where your programme is now – across API and drug product development, and from pre-clinical through to filing.
Working as a seamless extension of your team, we connect solid form selection to particle engineering to characterisation to formulation, and ensure every decision is made with the end goal in mind.
The result? Fewer late-stage surprises, more robust processes, and development that moves forward with greater confidence.
Particology’s Particle Diversity Approach
At the centre of how we work is our Particle Diversity approach — a philosophy and holistic way of working that ensures the right particle design decisions are made at the right time, at every stage of development.
For clients, this means reduced risk of late-stage issues, more robust processes, and greater confidence at every development milestone. It is made possible by the depth and breadth of our integrated service offering, and the knowledge that sits behind it.
Particle Diversity is a framework for how we think and work, not a single service or fixed programme. It shapes our involvement across the full scope of what we do with clients, whatever form that takes.

Regulatory and commercial consultancy
Successful pharmaceutical development depends on in-depth knowledge of solid-state chemistry, material properties, formulation science and process control – and on understanding how those scientific decisions connect to the bigger picture.
We offer tailored strategic consultancy to help pharmaceutical teams mitigate risk, overcome technical challenges, protect IP, produce high-quality regulatory submissions and advance their programmes with confidence.
Consultancy services include
Due diligence
Patent litigation support
CMC documentation
Technical reports to support patent applications
Freedom-to-operate (FTO) strategy
Collaborations that add value
Particology are actively engaged in research collaborations that extend our reach and keep us at the forefront of particle science, giving clients access to emerging capabilities and technologies they wouldn’t otherwise be able to tap into.
InspireMed
Particology is the industry lead on API crystallisation within InSPIREmed — a £8.2M Innovate UK-funded consortium developing new technologies to make medicines manufacturing more sustainable and efficient. Using particle science and precision sensing, our work advances real-time confirmation of crystallisation quality, meaning medicines can be produced with less waste and more reliable outcomes.
Microcore Technologies
Particology and Micropore Technologies are collaborating to evaluate the AXF™mini — Micropore’s precision membrane-based particle engineering instrument — for accelerating polymorph screening and particle exploration. The collaboration brings together complementary expertise in particle design and precision engineering, supporting the development of better, more efficient development workflows for pharmaceutical programmes.
Our CRO partner network
Where projects require capabilities beyond our core services, we draw on an established network of trusted CRO partners, giving clients access to what they need without the complexity of managing multiple supplier relationships.
